You can’t beat the smell of a real Christmas tree! Make sure your tree stays green right through the festive season with our top five tips:
1. Pick a good tree
A freshly cut tree will last longer than one that’s been cut a few weeks before and shipped to retail outlets/garden centres
2. Tree location
Your tree should be kept away from heat sources which may dry out the tree. Also, make sure it is placed somewhere where it won’t be knocked over.
3. Cutting the base
If possible, cut about an inch off the bottom of your tree to aid water absorption. This should be done within 8 hours of putting your tree in a stand. Leave the bark of the tree on as this is the part that absorbs more water.
4. Putting up the tree
We recommend using a good solid metal base or a bucket filled with rocks. It is important that the tree sits in a receptacle that can hold water.
5. Watering the tree
The tree will need lots of water to start with so keep checking the water every day. Make sure the water level stays above the base of the tree.
Remember, all fresh trees will lose some needles but a well watered tree will lose fewer and should stay green throughout the festive season.
